This hardcover edition, 2nd impression published by Plenum in 1991, of "Functional Analytic Psychotherapy: Creating Intense and Curative Therapeutic Relationships" by Robert J. Kohlenberg and Mavis Tsai, is offered in Good condition. The covers, high gloss olive green boards contrasted by black and white print, are in great shape overall, while the binding remains square and tight. However, it's worth noting that Chapters 1, 2, and 7 contain extensive yellow highlights. Despite this, the interior pages are largely clean and unmarked. The book presents a powerful framework for clinicians seeking to rethink their approach to the therapeutic relationship, integrating aspects of psychodynamic and object relations therapy with traditional CBT methods. The authors delve into the theory behind the therapy, explaining why clients' unique needs may extend beyond well-mapped routes to change. From there, they present the clinical principles of FAP and their uses in treating diffuse, resistant problems.Case illustrations model the therapeutic dyad, show FAP techniques in action, and offer crucial caveats. Throughout the book, readers gain insights into recognizing clinically relevant verbal behaviors, the role of the self in personality disorders, new roles for cognitions and beliefs in therapy, and more.About the authors: Robert Kohlenberg, Ph.D., ABPP, is a professor of psychology at the University of Washington, while Mavis Tsai, Ph.D., is a psychologist in independent practice and a clinical instructor at the same university. Both authors are renowned in their field, with extensive expertise and numerous publications and presentations.Despite the highlighting in specific chapters, this book remains a valuable resource for clinical psychologists interested in revitalizing practice, minimizing impasses, and treating clients on a deeper emotional level. Graduate students will also find this text a valuable window onto traditional behavioral approaches to therapy.…

This volume focuses on the Native American cultures that have existed across the Dakotas in relative isolation from external influences. A chapter entitled Prehistory contains citations for items comprising information about Sioux and other Indian communities derived from archaeological and anthropological analysis. Another, entitled Profile of Traditional Cultures in the Sioux Federation, includes sighting reports and other narratives regarding the habits and beliefs of Sioux people that have been little affected by outsiders. A third chapter directs users to sources about Sioux spirituality. The following chapter contains a report on sources of information about Sioux people published outside the United States. The final chapter includes materials on Sioux language and winter counts. This volume will be especially valuable to teachers and researchers with specific interests in tribal cultures. The indexes are cross-referenced to their companion volume South Dakota History, which provides an indepth bibliographical review of the literature on the state and white-Indian relations.
