Intact clean condition pictorial dust jacket with slight creasing to edges and slight rubbing and signs of handling. Intact slightly faded DJ spine. Dust Jacket over very good condition green cloth boards. 296 clean inside pages of English text with  b&w illustrations, no inscriptions. Image shown is actual book for sale. Synopsis: In this book Nigel Scotland demonstrates that the various branches of Methodism made possible both the birth and subsequent development of agricultural trade unionism in the 1870's. The Methodist contribution to the origin of the agricultural labourers' protest was diverse. The experience of religious conversion amongst the Methodists helped to generate resolve and determination in agricultural workers. They were encouraged to demand better conditions of work and shorter working hours. Methodism also provided the labourer with many opportunities for reading, writing and public speaking as well as the experience of organising chapel business and worship.…
