Folio, contemporary dark brown morocco and grained dark brown cloth recently rebacked matching dark brown morocco, raised bands, gilt spine lettering, elaborate gilt stamping at front cover, a.e.g., marbled endpapers, cloth reinforced hinges, xii, 120 and 8 pages, numerous pictorial initials, 130 text figures plus 133 full-page composite b/w plates with intervening descriptive text leaves. Solid copy, gilt strong, minor evidence of old wear at edges and corners of lower cover, text very firm, brief chipping at first few leaves, erasure and thin spot on title page beneaths author's name.
