First impression of the first paperback issue of the true first edition - published by Jonathan Cape in the Star Editions series for books "To be sold on the Continent of Europe only". This edition was published in the same year as the hardback issue. Edited with an Introduction by Theodore Spencer. ***Near fine in the original thin card blue covers. The covers are exceptionally clean and uncreased considering the age and fragile nature of the production. No significant creasing. No tears. No fading. Interior pages clean apart from a light stain mark to the title page which has also affects the opposite page. No foxing. Spine tight without any reading creases. No dustwrapper as issued. ***186mm x 126mm. 210 pages including an 11 page Introduction and an Editorial Note. ***'Stephen Hero is a posthumously-published autobiographical novel by Irish author James Joyce. Its published form reflects only a portion of an original manuscript, part of which was lost. Many of its ideas were used in composing A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.'
