First UK edition, first impression. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, spine badly sunned (as is usual with this book), but front jacket still bright orange / red, except a small faded patch to spine side of top front jacket, spotting to page fore edges and endpapers, corners bruised, not price clipped (25s), no inscriptions, internally cleanish and tight, overall a vg copy. 304pp. Rachel Louise Carson (1907-1964), American marine biologist and conservationist whose seminal book 'Silent Spring' and other writings are credited with advancing the global environmental movement.
