First US edition, first printing, published by Houghton Mifflin in 1977. The first printing has an error on page 3 in the list of works by Tolkien it spells Farmer Giles of Ham as "Father" Giles of Ham. No map. Unclipped dust jacket with some age toning, marks, wear and a few tiny tears, now in a removable protective wrapper. Turquoise cloth covers with bright gilt and silver decoration, red top edge, previous owners name to the free endpaper, pages a little age toned but otherwise clean and smart. Lacks the fold out map. Good condition.
