Octavo. 147 pages, illustrated. Originally designed for the U.S Naval Astronomy students. It includes all aspects of sea surveying as directed by John A. Howell, Commander, U.S. Naval Academy. It deals in depth with hydrographical surveying and the use of coast survey methods. Neap Tides, Bonne's projections, and the use of the Zenith telescope (with chart at back of book). There is a nice full page plate of the Wurdemann Theodolite and several others (some folding). Although in our modern world with GPS, much of this is dated, it is a testimony of how precise measurements were and how land surveying principles with the proper adjustment could be accurately applied for purposes of the navy.
