He then delves into the various weapons that competed against the Colt Model 1911 for adoption by the U.S. Military - first the American Competitors, and then the Foreign Entrants. He then covers the Gallery Practice Pistols, other Colt Automatic Pistols, Cutaway Demonstation Pisols, and finally Ammunition, Accoutrements and Appendages. The information gathered here has come from primary sources, such as Ordnance Department correspondence and records, the examination of pistols in both public and private collections, correspondence with the collecting fraternity, and secondary souces such as manuals and period publications. The format of this book relies heavily upon material quoted directly from the original records. An outstanding reference book. Long out of print and highly sought after. Scarce.
