Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. 155 pages with diagrams and index. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's pictorial wrappers. First edition. The Closed Sicilian is a variation of the Sicilian Defense in which white doesn't open the center with an early d2-d4. Instead, white often fianchettos the light bishop and plans to slowly build up on the kingside. A typical move order for the Closed Sicilian is 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. g3. White's e4-pawn, knight, and bishop on g2 will work together to control the central light squares and make it difficult for black to break in the center with d5. The g2 bishop will also be a nice defender for the white king, when white begins pushing the kingside pawns! Condition: Lightly soiled, edge wear with bumped corners and creased else very good.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. xii+237 pages with diagrams. Octavo (8" x 5 1/4") bound in original publisher's pictorial wrappers. First published in 1956. Why You Lose at Chess is vintage Reinfeld. He pulls no punches, showing the reader why he or she loses chess games. This is quite a remarkable feat when you think about it, because he never saw any of the games the vast majority of his readers played. But Fred knew the thinking that lurks behind poor chess decisions, and he let us all know what is wrong or irrelevant or misguided about the types of moves he witnessed far too often. Beginning with a chapter on self-appraisal, he links a lack of understanding of your own personality with erroneous choices of moves and plans in a chess game. He goes on to delve into playing blindly (with no idea what you are actually doing) or by rote (memorization vs. understanding). A couple of technical mistakes he points out include a lack of understanding of the tremendous importance controlling the center makes as well as knowing what features in a position should be present in order for an attack to be likely to work. Among other observations, he gets on amateur players for being easily bored, impatient, lazy, and stubborn. And all of this comes with lucid examples from master play that back up his contentions. All in all, this is an outstanding treatment of a subject players generally do not pay enough attention to. It has the potential to open anyone's eyes to what playing strong chess can be like. Let Fred Reinfeld show you the way to better chess. Condition: Edge wear with some closed tears, corners bumped, rubbed and lightly creased else very good.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. 208 pages with diagrams and index. Octavo (8 1/4" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's pictorial wrappers. First edition. The Queen s Gambit Declined (QGD), is a highly popular opening for players of all levels, from absolute beginners to World Champions. Known for giving a solid position, many play this opening from the Black side, however, things aren t as simple as they seem to be. With an emphasis on 4.Bg5, which was the old mainline played at the highest levels since the World Championship match of the 1920s, we uncover a lot of new ideas. This repertoire provides White with ideas against any of the Black options after the moves 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3. These ideas are both objectively good and highly practical, so as to be easily remembered. By studying this course, you will be able to get a better position against sidelines, and even against the mainlines; confidently achieving a pleasant position, which Black must defend precisely. Study the course and start picking up points against the solid QGD! Condition: Light edge wear with bumped corners else very good.
