Soft cover. Condizione: New. Your key to understanding and assessing the originality of American military rifles, swords, pistols, muskets, carbines, revolvers, and more! A collector's guide to the inspection marks found on American firearms and edged weapons from 1795 1953 with detailed information about the inspectors and the weapons that bear their marks. This long-awaited guide by two of the world's most respected arms researchers is an alphabetically arranged catalog of the identified inspectors' marks that are found on military weapons made for United States forces from the beginning of the system through World War II and its aftermath. Collectors are well aware that these marks are crucial to properly identifying and determining the originality of a wide range of U.S. martial arms, whether they were made at armories or by contractors and that much of the information that has been available up until now was frustratingly incomplete or even flat-out wrong. Amazingly useful, this guide is sure to become an indispensable 'go to' reference for all military arms enthusiasts. 9 X 11 inches, softcover, illus, 240 pages.

Hardcover. Condizione: New. Condizione sovraccoperta: New. The most significant military handgun of the Civil War. Second Printing, 462 pages. A huge volume. 8.75" x 11.25". Hardcover with a dust jacket. The definitive history of the Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver--this book serves as a reliable, easy-to-use reference for the collector and military historian. The author has amassed a database that contains approximately 8,000 surviving examples of complete pistols. After examining records from the Colt factory, regimental books, the Ordnance Department and the Treasury Department, as well as these revolvers, the author, having now written the complete story of these handguns, presents it all in this book using over 900 black & white photos. The Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver is the most iconic handgun of the Civil War. In this groundbreaking new study, noted researcher and author Charles W. Pate presents the entire story of the Model 1860 from its development under the supervision of Sam Colt to its procurement by the United States military and commercial customers. The revolvers of the Union forces are very carefully examined, as are those New Model Army Colts used in the Confederate States of America, including captured guns. Of particular value to collectors, there are detailed sections on variations within the Model 1860, including all the markings, finishes, shoulder stocks and deluxe decorations that are likely to be encountered. Revolvers used aboard U.S. Navy and U.S. Army ships are also studied, as well as those revolvers carried during the period of the Indian Wars. Many of these fine weapons come with detailed histories, which bring to life the experiences of the men who trusted their lives to the effectiveness of this beautiful and meticulously constructed handgun. No enthusiast of Colts or American military handguns can afford to do without this uniquely detailed look into one of our nation's most important pistols. A really outstanding new reference book.
