The clarity and ease of use of Vignola's treatise caused it to become in succeeding centuries the most published book in architectural history. Also laid-in is a letter from the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design and Architectural drawings from the period. Shows some minor toning and wear.

Loose folio leaves of fragile semi-alkaline paperstock, each leaf measuring 13x9.5 inches; all are somewhat toned throughout, we have hand-counted (laborously; and confirmed with item's printed numerals) seventy-six engraved plates under a rubricated titlepage, good copies pace a few tiny corner-tip creasings to terminal leaves, all enclosed in a printed cardstock folder with red linen backstrip and old ribbon ties. Folder is stained and frayed and rather dirty, but still serviceable, even the ties. Usable, handleable set, complete. Comment: we have in hand 76 unduplicated plates in perfect series, whereas cover text and titlepage call for only 66. We note that other dealers have met the same peculiarity.

There are many penciled notes throughout, mostly on blank pages. Some notes in pen in the first few pages, though no text has been affected. Undated, circa early 20th century or late 19th. All corners and the top and bottom of the spine are moderately bumped, and all edges to the boards show scuffing. Text block is age toned, but clean. Spine is solid and firm, and the text block is firmly attached. Size: 4to - over 9 3/4 in - 12 in tall.
