Undated but assumed issued soon after the original edition by Collins in 1921, so possibly 1922.; 284 pages; First hand account of the epic exploration to the Antarctic in 1910-13, by the second-in-command of Captain Scott's expedition. Scott asked him to join the team and therefore drop plans for his own competing expedition to explore King Edward VII Land. Evans got to within 150 miles of the pole, before being told he was not to make the final leg of the journey. On the way back he nearly died of scurvy but was rescued by the heroism of his two companions, Tom Crean and William Lashly, to whom this book is dedicated.

This was first published in 1927.

Covers damp stained, some damp stains on some page edges. In 1938 the first illustrated edition, "With 31 photographs" with the now well-known selection of photographs by Ponting was published. There have been many re-issues. This 1956 edition contains 13 photographs and no maps. The title page does not reflect the fewer photographs but the illustrations page does.
