Prima edizione
Hardcover. Presumed first edition/first printing. ix, 239, [1] p. 21 cm. Chronology. Foreword by Vincent Sheean. This is a Current History book published in co-operation with CURRENT HISTORY and FORUM. "The letters assembled in this book give an idea of the indomitable spirit which sustains them. The editors have tried to choose letters representative of many types and classes, written at all stages of the war since its relatively inactive early phases. Some of these may have been written with an eye to publication----it is not impossible, even in the most personal of letters----but most are obviously the unfeigned and unvarnished expressions of what their writers have felt as the world reeled on to catastrophe."----from the Foreword. Good. No dust jacket. Cover has some wear and soiling. Some endpaper discoloration. Pencil erasure residue on fep.

Libro Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Published during the Blitz in the Second World War - the story of a working class south London street in a time of devastation. Haunting and forensic photographic record of a community under extreme pressure. It looks like this book is much travelled, or at least has crossed the Atlantic - with its red ink stamp on the rear pastedown (H. W. Wilson Company, University Avenue, New York City) and a tipped in ex-libris plate on the front pastedown (Colin Osman, Barnet, Hertfordshire). As well as occasional pencil markings including on the title page (image), there is an affixed type-written note on the rear endpaper (again, see image). Condition is, however, generally very sound. The grey cloth boards do display some edge wear/fraying in places. Other than the aforementioned marginalia, the main condition-related issue internally is the marginal tanning - fortunately most of the text and almost all of the stunning b/w photos remain largely unaffected. pp. 124/8vo (imperial octavo). More images available on request. Please note that, depending on destination, we may request an additional payment to cover any extra shipping/postage charges. Proceeds to Amnesty International.
