En La obsolescencia del odio, el escritor, poeta y filósofo alemán Günther Anders (1902-1992) acomete una de las reflexiones más agudas e inteligentes sobre el cambio de paradigma histórico en las masacres contemporáneas: ahora se extermina apretando botones, sin odio, ni verdadero ni presunto, en la abstracción más completa. Los hechos monstruosos que se cometen en estos días en nombre de lo que sea y que aprovechan un sofisticado desarrollo técnico (la técnica atómica, digamos) son hechos sin hombres: ni nosotros combatimos a seres humanos ni somos combatidos por seres humanos, explica Anders. El odio no puede estar detrás de una masacre, ni siquiera detrás del fantasma de una masacre ?de su sola posibilidad?, dado que la contienda, el asesinato, la eliminación ocurren como un momento particular de un proceso con objetivos más amplios. Su motor, sin duda, no será tampoco la maldad, dado que la maldad es en sí misma un propósito. Esos actos inhumanos, calculados, previstos son, en el mejor de los casos, sólo un «trabajo» que obtendrá su moneda a cambio y en cuya realización el hombre interviene hundido en la más pura enajenación. Según Anders, una explicación que quiera hacer referencia al odio es superflua, porque en este contexto el odio se ha vuelto obsoleto. GÜNTHER ANDERS (pseudónimo de Günther Sigmund Stern) nace el 12 de julio de 1902 en Breslau. Cursa estudios de Filosofía y se doctora en 1923 bajo la dirección de Husserl. A continuación realiza simultáneamente trabajos filosóficos, periodísticos y literarios en París y Berlín. En 1929 contrae matrimonio con Hannah Arendt, de la que se separará siete años después. Emigra en 1933 a París y en 1936 a Estados Unidos. Allí realizará trabajos como operario fabril y otros de carácter eventual, experiencia esta que influirá más tarde en su obra principal Die Antiquiertheit des Menschen (La obsolescencia del hombre). Pre-Textos publicó en 2007 Hombre sin mundo, obra de marcado tono filosófico, que reúne, no obstante, textos dedicados a escritores y artistas con los que, en su mayoría, el autor mantuvo una relación más o menos estrecha: Brecht, Broch, Döblin, Heartfield, Grosz y Kafka. Como destacado activista del movimiento antinuclear internacional intenta ya, desde el año 1945, responder adecuadamente al peligro atómico. En 1950 regresa a Europa y se establece en Viena. Visita Hiroshima en 1958 y en 1959 mantiene una intensa correspondencia con el piloto que dejó caer las bombas atómicas sobre las ciudades japonesas, Claude Eatherly. Fue también un comprometido opositor a la guerra de Vietnam. Hasta el momento escasamente conocida en España, su vasta obra escrita se vio recompensada en vida del autor por numerosos e importantes premios literarios, científicos y periodísticos.
