Hardcover. Condizione: Very good minus. First edition. Oblong octavo [23 cm x 21 cm] in pictorial boards. The boards are lightly soiled, and the front board is warped at the fore-edge. Internally clean and bright. The text is in English, German, and French. Warja Lavater is best known for her symbolic reinterpretations of fairy tales. In this book she takes a different tack, using words, symbols, and representational images to tell the story of Western Art throughout history. Her protagonist, a painter called 'The Disobedient', begins work in the Stone Age and proceeds up through Pop Art.
