A Dog of Flanders was originally written and published in the late 1800s, from which time it grew a following substantial enough to earn it a film adaptation via anime series in Japan. There's an entire manga based on this book from 1800s Europe. This edition is a Companion Library Edition, one of the first books to bear a legitimate ISBN number. This copy is in near perfect condition, it's a hardback print, it's illustrated, and it's gorgeous.

The cloth is bright red, showing some wrinkling due to the gluing process, corners are lightly bumped, name to ffep, and front hinge has a crack line. 8vo. Publishers red cloth bound boards, white decorations with gilt title and top edge.

Ouida (1839-1908) wrote more than forty novels, including two that were adapted several times into plays and films: A DOG OF FLANDERS and UNDER TWO FLAGS. This novel was adapted for a 1915 silent film titled THE LITTLE DUTCH GIRL directed by Emile Chautard, and a silent film in 1920 titled TWO LITTLE WOODEN SHOES directed by Sidney Morgan. First set in the Netherlands, it features a foundling girl who grows up poor and sweet, becomes a model for, and enamored with a painter who moves to Belgium. When the girl, Bebee, hears the painter is ill, she walks to Belgium to offer him aid and comfort. Octavo; 322 pages.
