Ich war bereits in Europa (ebenso wie Schilder, Bender und andere in diesem Lande) für die Anerkennung der Tatsache eingetreten, daß es sich bei einigen Kindern, die an mich als Kinderanalytikerin verwiesen worden waren, um mit kinderanalytischen Methoden behandelt zu werden, in Wahrheit um Fälle eines schizophrenieähnlichen Zustandes handelte. Sie gehörten daher weder unter Schwachsinnige auf einer kinderpsychiatrischen Station, noch konnten sie als schwere Neurotiker betrachtet und demnach nicht nach klassischer psychoanalytischer Methode analysiert werden." - Margaret Mahler (geboren als Margarethe Schönberger 10.
