Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. Contents: Foreword. Preface. 1. The Habitat of the Pauri Bhuinya. 2. Social Organization. 3. Religious Universe. 4. Biodiversity, Natural Resources and Indigenous Knowledge. 5. Ethno-Ecological Classifications. 6. Ethno-Biological Uses. 7. Ecological Anthropology. 8. Indigenous People and Forest Management. Appendices. Bibliography. Index. Forests, a precious renewable resource, are habitats of many aborigines and treasure houses of a large number of flora and fauna. Any distortion to them imbalances the life of their inhabitants. Man and Forest series highlights the relevance of indigenous knowledge systems of various South Asian tribal communities in the sustainable management of local resources/forests. Here comes the importance of making a scientific enquiry into the application of indigenous tribal knowledge in rediscovering their methods of production, consumption and conservation, against the all-pervading impact of modernity and the ever-increasing demand for an unbridled use of natural resources. This monograph The Hill Bhuinya of Kendujhar is the eighth in the Man and Forest series and fourth in the Forest Tribes of Orissa: Lifestyle and Social Conditions of Selected Orissan Tribes. It helps in understanding how the Bhuinya perceive their ecosystem; how their sociocultural life is interwoven with the forests and other elements of their ecosystem; their management systems for upkeeping it; and the role their indigenous knowledge plays in their production, consumption and conservation practices, against the backdrop of a considerable depletion of biodiversity during the latter part of the twentieth century. This book is the result of a detailed study on the forest/hill-dwelling tribe of the Bhuinya of Bhuinyapirh in Banspal Block, Kendujhar District, Odisha since 1996 by a team of anthropologists, ethnosociologists, botanists and ethnobotanists. It was critically revised and analysed, using authentic methods due to changes in the state and central government policies, recently. (jacket).

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - A ghost cannot tie a knot. A ghost cannot calibrate a voltage. But in the village of Jakpur, the dead are doing exactly that.In the hinterlands of West Bengal, the past doesn't die-it just waits for the rain to wash it clean. Thirty years ago, the wealthy Chatterjee family murdered an outcast to protect their gold, burying him beneath a banyan tree. They thought the red earth would hold their secret. They were wrong. Now, the debt has come due.One by one, the Chatterjee heirs are meeting gruesome, impossible ends. A man drowns in a shallow pond with dry lungs. Another is found nailed to a granary wall during a storm. A third drives off a cliff, blinded by a sun that shouldn't exist at midnight. To the terrified villagers, it is the work of a vengeful spirit. To Inspector Sagar Mondal, a man born of the village dust but raised by the law, it looks like a masterpiece of engineering. At every crime scene, he finds a single red thread-not a ritual binding, but a mechanical trigger.Sagar's investigation leads him to the local Ashram and its enigmatic saint, Murari Baba-a man who preaches peace but possesses the callused hands of a chemist. As the monsoon turns the soil to blood-colored mud, Sagar realizes he isn't chasing a ghost, but a killer using physics to simulate the supernatural.Caught between the corrupt history of the landlords and the cold logic of the killer, Sagar must decide what matters more: the law of the state, or the justice of the soil.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - A ghost cannot tie a knot. A ghost cannot calibrate a voltage. But in the village of Jakpur, the dead are doing exactly that.Thirty years ago, the wealthy Chatterjee family buried a dark secret in the red earth. Now, their heirs are dying in impossible, 'supernatural' accidents. The villagers fear a curse, but Inspector Sagar Mondal sees a blueprint. At every crime scene, Sagar finds a pattern: leverage, fulcrums, and chemical reactions. He realizes he isn't hunting a phantom, but a killer who has weaponized physics to mimic the divine. As the monsoon rises, Sagar must prove that the 'ghost' haunting Jakpur is actually a master engineer. He must solve the equation before the final debt is paid in blood.Revenge is not an emotion. It is a calculation.
