Loss on spine of the lower band and the spine below it, hinges cracked but covers still on, old dampstaining along extreme block edge. No pages are stuck or welded. A suitable candidate for rebinding.

In full calf binding. Externally, worn, rubbing and fading to the boards and spine and bumping to the extremities and head and tail of the spine, some cracking to the joints. Previous owner inscription to the page after the front free endpaper dated 1771 and to the page after the rear free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound with maps missing. Pages are generally bright with some scattered spots throughout. Fair. book.

With an Index, Specifying the Time of their respective Creations, and Summons to Parliament; the Titles of their Eldest Sons; their Rank, Precedence, &c." The author is Thomas Salmon (1679-1767) who also published volumes on the English and Scottish nobility and was an editor of the "State Trials." This is a disbound copy of the First Edition. The leather covers are present but loose, as is the first endpaper. The textblock is still attached to the leather spine, which has five raised bands and an embossed title. Clean text; very bright and fresh; 272 pages, with a six-page index and a one-page publisher's advert in the rear. The Title Page has an embossed chop from an English library. Pages 167 to 180 have dampstain and a crease. [Please note the condition issues. Quercus must offer this as a binding copy, in need of restoration or repair. In this case, well worth a rebind.]. First Edition. Disbound. Very Good/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

Very good overall, sound and clean throughout. Note: This is a massive, heavy folio volume; postage to overseas destinations would entail significant extra postage costs. Salmon's four-volume Compleat Collection of State-Tryals was first issued in 1719; he revised this to a one-volume "New Abridgement" in 1735; here reprinted in 1737. The final edition of this work was published in 1765.

(126*211 mm). (ESTCT69010). Salmon, historian and travel writer, accompanied George Anson on his round-the-world voyage. His experiences formed the subject for a series of other titles, among them A New Geographical and Historical Grammar (1749), which ran to thirteen editions by 1785, and The Universal Traveller (1752?3). In addition Salmon contributed surveys of the English, Scottish, and Irish peerages, guides for foreign visitors to Oxford and Cambridge, biographies of men who died in the service of their country, and an essay on marriage.
