It is based on the rock opera of the same name by the British band 'The Who'. The film is quite interesting to watch, especially as a young person, because after all the then-problems still affect today's youth. It is hard for a young person to find his/her position in society and too many influences from the outside world can distract you from achieving what you aim for in life. In the first part of this term paper I am going to describe the mood of the sixties in England, when the story of the young London Mod James Michael Cooper takes place and important changes during this decade will be mentioned. Besides, two subcultures will be presented: the Teddy Boys, as the beginning of youth movements in England in 1950 and the Rockers, the Mods' enemies. In the second part of this thesis, I am going to characterise the protagonist of the film 'Quadrophenia' in detail. Jimmy's outward appearance will be described as well as his state of mind. Furthermore, the rivalry between Mods and Rockers will be analised. The members of both subcultures differ not only from their outward appearance but as well in their taste of music and lifestyle which led to riots between 1964 and 1966 between Mods and Rockers, especially at weekends in seaside resorts like Brighton, Margate, Clacton and Hastings.

It will be discussed if working hard is enough to reach one's American Dream. The play is written by Lorraine Hansberry and published in 1958. It takes place in the south of Chicago where the Younger family lives and consists of five people from three different generations. Head of the family is Lena, who is mostly called Mama, right after her we got her son Walter Lee, who will be presented in the main part of this term paper. Besides, there is Walter's wife Ruth and their son Travis. The last member of the Youngers is Walter's sister Beneatha. Mama embodies the first generation and is quite traditional. Ruth, Walter and 'Bennie' represent the second generation, whereas Travis is the only child in the third generation. The family has been living in America in the fifth generation and has got African roots. It can be said though that Walter, Bennie, Ruth and Travis are less traditional than Mama and identify with the American way of life.The whole family shares a small apartment in a ghetto and living together is difficult as everybody has got his or her own desire, Dream and point of view about certain topics. Especially Walter Lee expects a lot from life and the reader sympathizes with him. Misunderstood by his family Walter wants to live a better life and represents the concept of the American Dream of a person wanting to 'rise from rags to riches'. Walter dreams of an office job and really dislikes being a chauffeur for a white person. He wants his son to go to the best schools and to get the best education as possible. Furthermore, he also wants to spoil his wife and get himself a nice car. But why does he fail Why does nobody in his family support his idea of raising an own business, namely opening a liquor store Beneatha is not even surprised about Walter's failure. These questions shall be answered in the main part of this paper. Moreover, I quickly want to present the concept of the American Dream, especially focusing on the Dream of 'Upward Mobility'.

Es handelt sich bei diesem Text um die Erzählung 'Vierzehn' von Brigitte Kronauer aus dem Buch 'Die Kleider der Frauen'. Das Thema dieser Arbeit lautet 'Wie die Erzählung Vierzehn zu ihrem Titel kommt'. Wie die These bereits vermuten lässt, ist dies nämlich auf den ersten Blick für den Leser nicht auf Anhieb nachvollziehbar. Bevor nun die Gliederung der Hausarbeit vorgestellt wird, soll zunächst kurz der Inhalt der Erzählung beschrieben werden.In der Erzählung steht die zwanzigjährige Studentin Rita im Mittelpunkt. Sie wohnt den Mai über bei einem älteren Ehepaar, um diesem über den Verlust der eigenen Tochter hinwegzuhelfen. Rita ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt ziemlich durcheinander und leidet darunter, mit zwanzig Jahren noch keine sexuellen Erfahrungen gemacht zu haben. Sie sitzt oft mit dem Ehepaar in deren Schrebergarten zusammen und häufig bekommen sie auch Besuch von einem vierzehnjährigen Jungen aus der Nachbarschaft. Dieser Junge ist in Rita verliebt und überfällt sie eines Tages mit einem Besuch Zuhause. Er bittet sie zu einem Gespräch unter vier Augen und hat sogar ein Geschenk für Rita dabei, wobei es sich um ein Paar verrückte Schuhe handelt. Bevor Rita aber etwas dazu sagen kann, wird der Vierzehnjährige von dem Fahrer seiner Eltern unsanft abgeholt - und mit ihm die Schuhe.Im Hauptteil dieser Arbeit werden nacheinander erst Rita und dann der Vierzehnjährige charakterisiert. Anschließend soll eine Analyse der Beziehung der beiden zeigen, wie maßgeblich diese für die Titelwahl der Erzählung ist. Nach der Analyse der Figuren, widme ich mich dem Motiv der Schuhe. Die detaillierte Beschreibung der Schuhe in der Erzählung ist sehr auffällig und soll nun gedeutet werden. Außerdem möchte ich kurz erläutern, warum sich die Autorin der Erzählung dazu entschieden hat, die Erzählung im Mai stattfinden zu lassen. Im Schlussteil dieser Arbeit erfolgt ein abschließendes Fazit.

Jahrhunderts aus der Perspektive der Diskursanalyse und der sozialhistorischen Forschung positionieren lässt. Im Hauptteil wird zunächst das Individuum Effi charakterisiert sowie Unterschiede zwischen ihrem Wesen und dem der stereotypischen Frau des 19. Jahrhunderts. Es folgt eine Analyse zweier prinzipientreuer Personen in Effi Briest, pars pro toto für die damalige Gesellschaft. Es soll gezeigt werden, dass das Festhalten an Prinzipien und das Einhalten der Normen anstatt des gewünschten Erfolgs, ebenso Unglück hervor bringen kann. Abschließend möchte ich die Frage beantworten, ob Effi eine Frau ist, die die Gesellschaft des 19. Jahrhunderts repräsentieren kann.1896 erscheint Theodor Fontanes Werk Effi Briest. Der Roman erzählt das Schicksal der jungen Protagonistin, nach der der Roman benannt ist. Ihr Schicksal ist durch die strengen Konventionen und Normen der preußischen Gesellschaft zu rechtfertigen, an denen Effi letztendlich zugrunde geht. Effi ist bei ihrer Heirat gerade einmal 17 Jahre alt, ihr fehlt noch genau ein Jahr bis zur Volljährigkeit. Ihr Mann Geert von Innstetten ist um einiges älter als sie und es fällt uns heutzutage schwer, diesen Altersunterschied als nicht pädophil anzusehen.Auch der Skandal des Romans ist nur noch schwer nachzuvollziehen, da ein 'kleiner Seitensprung' im 21. Jahrhundert normal geworden ist. Vor allem ist er Privatsache und stört in keiner Hinsicht das gesellschaftliche System. Ebenfalls befremdlich wirkt die Tatsache, dass Effi an einen ehemaligen Liebhaber ihrer Mutter verheiratet wird und sie somit in gewisser Weise als Stellvertreterin für Luise von Briest gesehen werden kann. Trotz aller Befremdlichkeit ist der Roman dennoch aktuell, da es auch in unserer Zeit noch viele unterschiedliche Formen 'der Verkupplung' gibt.

Des Weiteren wird herausgearbeitet, in welchen Bereichen der Öffentlichkeit es die größte Aufmerksamkeit erfährt. Anschließend möchte ich anhand des Beispiels 'Neger' analysieren, wie beleidigende und diskriminierende Ausdrücke objektiv in Wörterbüchern erfasst sind und wie dies in einigen wichtigen Wörterbüchern der deutschen Sprache dokumentiert ist.Das semantische Feld rund um den Begriff Neger hat in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten mehr und mehr das Interesse der Bevölkerung erregt. Jedes Jahr emigrieren Menschen aus Afrika, aufgrund von Krieg, Armut etc. in ihren Heimatländern, nach Europa. Ausdrücke zur Bezeichnung schwarzer Menschen werden daher häufiger benutzt und wecken somit eine gewisse Neugier bei der europäischen Bevölkerung. Besonders das Lexem 'Neger' sorgt in der Öffentlichkeit für Diskussionen. Zudem haben verschiedene Vorfälle zu dem wachsenden Interesse um diesen Begriff beigetragen.Der Tod des 17-jährigen Trayvon Martin in Florida im Jahr 2012 beispielsweise, löste eine weltweite Diskussion über das Thema Rassismus aus - um nur einen Fall von vielen zu nennen. Der afroamerikanische Schüler wurde von dem 28-jährigen Nachbarschaftswachmann George Zimmermann, einem Mann spanischer Herkunft, in seinem eigenen Viertel erschossen. Während eines Streits erschoss Zimmermann den unbewaffneten Jungen. Der Nachbarschaftswachmann behauptete allerdings, aus Notwehr gehandelt zu haben. George Zimmermann wurde zwar des Mordes angeklagt, jedoch aufgrund mangelnder Beweislage freigesprochen. Sein Freispruch löste in den USA eine bundesweite Demonstration zur Rassendiskriminierung und Polizeiwillkür aus.Wie bereits erwähnt, ist dieser Fall nur einer von vielen, bei dem (unschuldige) schwarze Menschen von weißen Menschen mit rassistischen Motiven angegriffen worden sind, aber dies soll nicht das Thema der Hausarbeit sein.

The aim is to show, how the word has developed from a neutral meaning to a taboo word and why and where it arouses a great deal of interest in public. Furthermore, I want to analyse, using the example of 'nigger', how offensive words are objectively described and how that is documented in some important monolingual dictionaries of the English language.The lexical field about and around the word 'nigger' has aroused people's interest in the last two decades. More and more people from Africa immigrate to Europe due to war, poverty, etc. in their home countries. Expressions for addressing and talking about black people are used more often than in the past and therefore these words gain people's attention. Especially the term 'nigger' has led and still leads to discussions in public today. Several incidents have contributed to the growing interest about the word, too. To only name one example amongst hundreds, the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida in February 2012, caused a worldwide discussion about racial discrimination. The African-American student was shot by the 28-year-old neighbourhood watch George Zimmerman, a Hispanic man, who was responsible for the gated community where Martin was living. During an altercation Zimmerman shot the boy who was unarmed. The neighbourhood watch claimed he had acted in self-defence. The fact that he was not charged with murder, due to lack of evidence, made the huge debate about racial discrimination worse (McVeigh 2012). There are a lot of other examples that could be mentioned, where (innocent) black people have been abused by white people with racist motives, even by police force but this is not part of the term paper. 20 pp. Englisch.

Bevor nun die Gliederung der Hausarbeit vorgestellt wird, soll zunächst kurz der Inhalt der Erzählung beschrieben werden.In der Erzählung steht die zwanzigjährige Studentin Rita im Mittelpunkt. Sie wohnt den Mai über bei einem älteren Ehepaar, um diesem über den Verlust der eigenen Tochter hinwegzuhelfen. Rita ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt ziemlich durcheinander und leidet darunter, mit zwanzig Jahren noch keine sexuellen Erfahrungen gemacht zu haben. Sie sitzt oft mit dem Ehepaar in deren Schrebergarten zusammen und häufig bekommen sie auch Besuch von einem vierzehnjährigen Jungen aus der Nachbarschaft. Dieser Junge ist in Rita verliebt und überfällt sie eines Tages mit einem Besuch Zuhause. Er bittet sie zu einem Gespräch unter vier Augen und hat sogar ein Geschenk für Rita dabei, wobei es sich um ein Paar verrückte Schuhe handelt. Bevor Rita aber etwas dazu sagen kann, wird der Vierzehnjährige von dem Fahrer seiner Eltern unsanft abgeholt - und mit ihm die Schuhe.Im Hauptteil dieser Arbeit werden nacheinander erst Rita und dann der Vierzehnjährige charakterisiert. Anschließend soll eine Analyse der Beziehung der beiden zeigen, wie maßgeblich diese für die Titelwahl der Erzählung ist. Nach der Analyse der Figuren, widme ich mich dem Motiv der Schuhe. Die detaillierte Beschreibung der Schuhe in der Erzählung ist sehr auffällig und soll nun gedeutet werden. Außerdem möchte ich kurz erläutern, warum sich die Autorin der Erzählung dazu entschieden hat, die Erzählung im Mai stattfinden zu lassen. Im Schlussteil dieser Arbeit erfolgt ein abschließendes Fazit. 20 pp. Deutsch.

Jahrhunderts aus der Perspektive der Diskursanalyse und der sozialhistorischen Forschung positionieren lässt. Im Hauptteil wird zunächst das Individuum Effi charakterisiert sowie Unterschiede zwischen ihrem Wesen und dem der stereotypischen Frau des 19. Jahrhunderts. Es folgt eine Analyse zweier prinzipientreuer Personen in Effi Briest, pars pro toto für die damalige Gesellschaft. Es soll gezeigt werden, dass das Festhalten an Prinzipien und das Einhalten der Normen anstatt des gewünschten Erfolgs, ebenso Unglück hervor bringen kann. Abschließend möchte ich die Frage beantworten, ob Effi eine Frau ist, die die Gesellschaft des 19. Jahrhunderts repräsentieren kann.1896 erscheint Theodor Fontanes Werk Effi Briest. Der Roman erzählt das Schicksal der jungen Protagonistin, nach der der Roman benannt ist. Ihr Schicksal ist durch die strengen Konventionen und Normen der preußischen Gesellschaft zu rechtfertigen, an denen Effi letztendlich zugrunde geht. Effi ist bei ihrer Heirat gerade einmal 17 Jahre alt, ihr fehlt noch genau ein Jahr bis zur Volljährigkeit. Ihr Mann Geert von Innstetten ist um einiges älter als sie und es fällt uns heutzutage schwer, diesen Altersunterschied als nicht pädophil anzusehen.Auch der Skandal des Romans ist nur noch schwer nachzuvollziehen, da ein 'kleiner Seitensprung' im 21. Jahrhundert normal geworden ist. Vor allem ist er Privatsache und stört in keiner Hinsicht das gesellschaftliche System. Ebenfalls befremdlich wirkt die Tatsache, dass Effi an einen ehemaligen Liebhaber ihrer Mutter verheiratet wird und sie somit in gewisser Weise als Stellvertreterin für Luise von Briest gesehen werden kann. Trotz aller Befremdlichkeit ist der Roman dennoch aktuell, da es auch in unserer Zeit noch viele unterschiedliche Formen 'der Verkupplung' gibt. 24 pp. Deutsch.

Das Ziel ist es zu zeigen, wie sich das Wort von einer neutralen Bedeutung zu einem Tabu-Wort entwickelt hat. Des Weiteren wird herausgearbeitet, in welchen Bereichen der Öffentlichkeit es die größte Aufmerksamkeit erfährt. Anschließend möchte ich anhand des Beispiels 'Neger' analysieren, wie beleidigende und diskriminierende Ausdrücke objektiv in Wörterbüchern erfasst sind und wie dies in einigen wichtigen Wörterbüchern der deutschen Sprache dokumentiert ist.Das semantische Feld rund um den Begriff Neger hat in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten mehr und mehr das Interesse der Bevölkerung erregt. Jedes Jahr emigrieren Menschen aus Afrika, aufgrund von Krieg, Armut etc. in ihren Heimatländern, nach Europa. Ausdrücke zur Bezeichnung schwarzer Menschen werden daher häufiger benutzt und wecken somit eine gewisse Neugier bei der europäischen Bevölkerung. Besonders das Lexem 'Neger' sorgt in der Öffentlichkeit für Diskussionen. Zudem haben verschiedene Vorfälle zu dem wachsenden Interesse um diesen Begriff beigetragen.Der Tod des 17-jährigen Trayvon Martin in Florida im Jahr 2012 beispielsweise, löste eine weltweite Diskussion über das Thema Rassismus aus - um nur einen Fall von vielen zu nennen. Der afroamerikanische Schüler wurde von dem 28-jährigen Nachbarschaftswachmann George Zimmermann, einem Mann spanischer Herkunft, in seinem eigenen Viertel erschossen. Während eines Streits erschoss Zimmermann den unbewaffneten Jungen. Der Nachbarschaftswachmann behauptete allerdings, aus Notwehr gehandelt zu haben. George Zimmermann wurde zwar des Mordes angeklagt, jedoch aufgrund mangelnder Beweislage freigesprochen. Sein Freispruch löste in den USA eine bundesweite Demonstration zur Rassendiskriminierung und Polizeiwillkür aus.Wie bereits erwähnt, ist dieser Fall nur einer von vielen, bei dem (unschuldige) schwarze Menschen von weißen Menschen mit rassistischen Motiven angegriffen worden sind, aber dies soll nicht das Thema der Hausarbeit sein. 24 pp. Deutsch.

It can be said though that Walter, Bennie, Ruth and Travis are less traditional than Mama and identify with the American way of life.The whole family shares a small apartment in a ghetto and living together is difficult as everybody has got his or her own desire, Dream and point of view about certain topics. Especially Walter Lee expects a lot from life and the reader sympathizes with him. Misunderstood by his family Walter wants to live a better life and represents the concept of the American Dream of a person wanting to ¿rise from rags to riches¿. Walter dreams of an office job and really dislikes being a chauffeur for a white person. He wants his son to go to the best schools and to get the best education as possible. Furthermore, he also wants to spoil his wife and get himself a nice car. But why does he fail Why does nobody in his family support his idea of raising an own business, namely opening a liquor store Beneatha is not even surprised about Walter¿s failure. These questions shall be answered in the main part of this paper.
