About The Book: This book reviews the policies adopted towards protection of environment, abatement of pollution, green initiative legislation in India under the purview of several Ministries & other government bodies, and the basic approaches to Environmental Policy in general adopted in various Countries in the form of Ecotax, Subsidies, Pollution Permits, Refundable Deposits for Pollution control, Allocation of Property Rights, Government Investment Programmes etc. It also concentrates on the theoretical explanation of Sustainable Development which includes economyenvironment linkages focusing on Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change's initiatives towards Sustainable Development. The authors try to explain the feasibility of adopting Market Based Instruments (MBIs) such as ecological tax (eco tax) to regulate behaviour of individuals/firms towards environment and argues that under prevailing constitutional and legal framework in India, it can be imposed by the central government as part of Union budget (Finance Act) and also under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. About The Author: Shri Abhay Kumar is 2004 Batch Indian Economic Service (IES) officer currently working as Deputy Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. He has completed his graduation and post graduation from Delhi University. Before joining the current Ministry, he was working in Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. Shri Surjith Karthikeyan is 2010 Batch Indian Economic Service (IES) officer currently working as Assistant Director in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. The author did his entire education till his Masters in Economics from Kerala University, got selected for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from UGC in the year 2010 and joined part time research in the Department of Economics, University of Kerala on the Topic "Coir Industry' prior to joining IES in the year 2010.
