Erik Acharius' was one of Linnaeus' last disciples. In the present work, he summarized his studies of the swedish lichen. In total, 345 species are described, 24 of which were previously unknown to science. Acharius continued his studies of lichen in "Lichenographia universalis" (1810) and "Synopsis methodica lichenum" (1814).
