Pictorial Hard Cover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. Lois Lenski (illustratore). {Illustrated by Lois Lenski; Random House; New York; 1946; Pictorial Hard Cover; Good/Good; 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.} Board edges (head and tail) scraped and worn; small scrapes on front edge of spine (possibly insect damage to both book and dj); dj has wear, tears and chips (largest about 1" x 2") at head and tail; gift inscription on FFEP dated 1951. "All the charm and the most memorable adventures of the original version are preserved in this new picture-story adaptation for younger children." Cover picture (on both front board and dj) shows Pinocchio, in his pointed cap and red suit, running in front of a group of people who include the Fairy and Gepetto. Full color illustration on endpapers; approximately 60 unnumbered pages. "Pinocchio has been for many years one of the best-loved and most popular of all children's stories. And no wonder, for this tale of a naughty puppet who is constantly getting into mischief and as constantly repenting of his misdeeds is full of the kind of action and adventure that all children enjoy. Most boys and girls do not become acquainted with Pinocchio until they are old enough to read the full-length book for themselves. Many miss reading it entirely. Yet here is a classic, rich in incident and wise in its lessons of human behavior, that can be as greatly enjoyed by younger children as by their older brothers and sisters. It is for them, therefore, that the text has been adapted and this picturebook especially prepared, under the careful supervision of Josette Frank, Children's Book Adviser of the ChildStudy Association of America. Naturally, it was felt that the artist chosen to illustrate this new version must be one whose pictures would convey both the robust humor and the moving tenderness of the story. Such an artist is Lois Lenski, whose lovely pictures will infuse this beloved classic with new life and meaning for many children." Listing updated 9-15-2007.
