Erstmals beschreibt der vorliegende Band umfassend Sammlertätigkeit und Mäzenatentum dieses Amateur des arts, verfolgt seine Bauprojekte und untersucht seine für die Entwicklung der russischen Künste wegweisenden Reformen als Präsident der St. Petersburger Akademie der Künste sowie als Leiter der staatlichen Pietre-Dure-Manufakturen.
