Joseph Patai (1882-1953) Hungarian writer, poet, translator and folklorist of Jewish origin. Joseph Patai, author and Zionist leader, died in Givat Haim at the age of 71. He was the author of a biography of Theodor Herzl, published in Hebrew. English, Hungarian and German. He translated into Hungarian a representative selection of Hebrew poetry ranging from Kalir to the modern Israeli poets. He was one of the founders of the Zionist Organization of Hungary, and as a result of his efforts, non-Zionists gave their support to Jewish settlement in Palestine, forming the Pro Palestine Society, of which he was the president.
