Art, Prints & Posters. Condizione: Good. [Reconstruction era Mississippi] 46 x 36 cm. Mounted hand colored Chromolithograph titled "A Home on the Mississippi". Minor tanning and foxing. Original Painting by Alfred Waud, Lithograph published by Currier and Ives. This rending was commissioned by the United States Government in 1871 as part of a documentary program on the Mississippi River. It depicts the Woodland Planation an antebellum mansion in West Pointe a la Hache, Louisiana. Published just six years after Civil War, the image features several African-Americans: one riding in a carriage with a white couple, some walking near the house's front gate, and another walking along the river bank. In the background you can see some paddle steamships. This image was also reproduced on the label of Southern Comfort Liquor bottles until 2010.
