Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -¿Terrorism'' is a morally loaded and normative term and has historically been used in a pejorative sense to identify, insult and accuse the ¿terrorist'' with illegitimacy of idea and action. This has given the word extreme political power which has been used to denounce and ¿outlaw'' opposing or alternative ideologies at the economic, religious or political levels. Such illegitimacy leads to a cessation of identity, including the identity of being human, and is a precursor to war, cruelty and violence and not for security, peace, democracy or development as the case is made out to be. Given this fact, it is argued that the use of this word in our times today is no different and is leading to the creation of more authoritarian structures and illiberal democracies supported with increasing use of might and power to extract a respect for authority and political legitimacy. Such an approach holds the danger of further escalation of violence. An alternative approach in understanding terrorism could be to see it as a violent reaction against such constructed identities and fiercely contested notions of unitary models of democracy and economic development.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 88 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -Natural Resources are under great pressure the world over, especially so in the developing countries that are constantly battling to maintain the delicate equilibrium of conserving them vis-a-vis the needs of the dependent populations. The saga of forestry and forest conservation in India is no different as it has to cater to the conflicting demands of environmentalism on the one hand and the demands of the forest-subsistence communities on the other. This ''balancing act'' has taken a heavy toll on the forests which were ''policed'' for over a century and are now sought to be managed with the help of the primary stake-holders; the people. However this paradigm shift to ''participatory management'' of forests is not without its own set of issues and problems. This book deals with the conflict over access, use and control of forest resources in a multi-caste, multi-level and a complex ordered society that is intrinsically fractured with various cultural and social identities and lives with a colonial past and its surrogates today. It tries to assess the sustainability of such conservation exercises in terms of ''operative equity'' rather than aid, funds, or government policy alone.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 160 pp. Englisch.
