Hardcover. Condizione: New. Condizione sovraccoperta: New. Jacket photo by Angus McBean (illustratore). Not a book but an unopened, 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl record, London OS 25992, presumed mint vinyl still sealed in original publisher's shrink-wrap. Selections from "Conversation Piece," "Bitter Sweet," "Operette," and "Pacific 1860," (originally performed on the London stage 1929-1954), with the guest appearance by Noel Coward himself on "Dearest Love" from "Operette" (which show opened March 16, 1938 at His Majesty's Theatre, starring Peggy Wood.) Jacket notes by Miles Kreuger. "Play this record only on stereophonic equipment." This record, still sealed, was acquired from the estate of Howard Hughes' right-hand man Robert Maheu, at the sale of Mr. Maheu's estate at his Las Vegas (Nevada) home, Nov. 15, 2008, though it does not display any ownership markings. Robert Aime Maheu, World War Two veteran of the FBI whose later work for the CIA was said to have been the model for the TV show "Mission Impossible," became the reclusive Howard Hughes' right-hand man in Las Vegas in the 1960s, though he never met Hughes face-to-face, receiving his instructions via memo and telephone. Reduced from $17.

His work includes most of the memorable productions of the Old Vic Company and of what is now the Royal Shakespeare Company; opera productions at Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House; ballet and operetta at Sadler's Wells; and West End productions of plays and musicals both old and new. He was the favorite photographer of Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier, and Edith Evans, and he photographed countless plays starring John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson, and Alec Guinness, not to mention younger stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Richard Burton, and Elizabeth Taylor. In fact, McBean photographed virtually every great actor of his era, perhaps the most brilliant years in the annals of British theater. In his early career, McBean had been a pioneer of surrealist photography, with a highly popular series of "surrealized" portraits that appeared in The Sketch, and, later, of montage and multiple-exposure photography in a long-running series for The Tatler." Photographs by Angus McBean; text by Fredric Woodbridge Wilson; essay by Richard Traubner. 192 pages; 120 duo-toned b&w plates; 10 x 9 inches.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: Very Good. A unique photographic record of Vivien Leigh's life taken by the photographer who noticed her on her first stage appearance in 1936 and asked her to model for him. This meeting led to a series of photographs produced at regular intervals throughout the rest of her life and a friendship which lasted beyond her death. The photographs which were taken for the casting of the role of Scarlet O'Hara were so successful that certain camera angles and the special "Vivien Leigh look" the photographer created were incorporated into key scenes in "Gone with the Wind". Personal memoirs which accompany the photographs contain many unknown details about her life and have ensured that her legend, like that of Marilyn Monroe, has lived after her death. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
