Paperback. Condizione: New. We live in a society that promotes the universal process of producing knowledge and truth as a fundamental social process. Such promotion of universality seems to subjugate others forms of knowing, rendering them invisible, unintelligible, and ineligible and subsequently outside the community of knowi…ng. This has material and symbolic consequences in terms of how research informs policy and subsequent victimization of those who live, and experience subjugation meted out by Western truth making universalism. In the words of Foucault, this book is an insurrection of subterranean and clandestine knowledges in the ways it provides not just an alternative process of knowledge production but also affirms local knowledge as necessary in production of a just society.Critical Research Methodologies looks at research as a social justice and transformational process that should speak of people's ways of living without necessarily streamlining them into numbers. The book is a critically reflexive project in terms of returning processes of knowledge production to the local space rather than imagining them as entirely centred in the structure. To imagine this book as a reflexive exercise is to break boundaries of knowledge in ways that come to imagine how the local performs the global in very complicated and complex ways. This book is a resurrection of local knowledges, steeped in creative and imaginative reflexive methodologies that come to reorient how we know what we know, the values and realities that mark what we know, and the how of knowledge production. It centres subjugated voices and knowledges as fundamental in production of knowledge.Contributors include: Katie Bannon, Elizabeth Charles, Khulood Agha Khan, Dionisio Nyaga, Fritz Pino, and Rose Ann Torres.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Asian Canadians-whether immigrant, international students, naturalized, native-born, or other-are hampered in their exploration and articulation of self by the dearth of critical writing both for them, and by them. Despite the influx of Asian students and their inflated tuition rates to Can…adian postsecondary institutions, they are strikingly underrepresented in the literature of the academy. Critical theory focusing on Asian identity, anti-Asian racism, and the Asian-Canadian experience is limited, or presented as an artifact of the past.Across the globe-but particularly in the English-speaking West-the internationalization of higher education continues its upward trend. 2017 data from the Canadian Bureau for International Education positioned Canada as the fourth-leading destination for international students seeking post-secondary education. The fact that the vast majority of international students at Canadian colleges and universities come from Asia has been well documented in domestic media, but the lived experiences and perspectives of these transnational individuals have not. This edited collection provides much-needed theorizing of Asian-Canadian lived experiences, focusing on such themes as: multiculturalism, diversity, race, culture, agency, education, community activism, citizenship, identity, model minority myths, gender, colonization, neoliberalism, and others.Contributors include: Sarah Alam, Syed Fahad Ali, Wallis Caldoza, Valerie G. Damasco, Grace Garlow, Allison Lam, Kailan Leung, Juanna Nguyen, Dionisio Nyaga, Jasmine Pham, Vania Soepriatna, Tika Ram Thapa and Rose Ann Torres. This collection looks to move beyond the myth of the model minority by theorizing the Asian-Canadian experience. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Asian Canada is Burning invites us to trouble the mobilization of "anti-Asian hate" in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic.Bringing together activists, organizers, academic, and artists, this book explores the historical and contemporary conditions that make theorizing "Asian Canadian" feasible. Ground…ed in a transnational queer and feminist lens, this book also aims to envision possible futures and solidarities. Ultimately, this collection is concerned with moments and places of tensions, confrontations, relations, and solidarity. We offer stories of insurgent encounters as people who identify as "Asian" navigate and implicate settler colonial nation-state to make new dreams, histories and intimacies.
