An uncommon work, in which are reproduced several letters between Ricketson and his great friend H.D. Thoreau. Ricketson (1813-1898), a New Bedford native who was known for his love of the outdoors and for his legal advocacy of the poor, took up a correspondence with Thoreau in 1854, after which the two became intimate associates, exchanging visits and more than sixty letters up until Thoreau's death in 1862.
