Ha sedici anni ed è deciso a combattere per liberare la sua terra dai nazifascisti. Si aggrega al battaglione Autonomo patrioti C guidato dal famoso tenente G.B. Bertagni, che fa parte dell'XI Zona comandata da "Pippo" Manrico Ducceschi dell'E.L.N. (Esercito di Liberazione Nazionale). L'unità partigiana con gli alleati deve difendere le linee nel settore della Linea Gotica nella valle del Serchio tra Gallicano, Vergemoli, Trassilico, Verni, Fornovolasco. Antonio Cavani fu, il 20 aprile del 1945, uno dei primi patrioti a entrare a Castelnuovo di Garfagnana - la sua città natale - completamente distrutta dai bombardamenti alleati e dalle distruzioni operate dai nazisti e dai fascisti in fuga. Con molti altri patrioti "Tasso" vive a fianco di brasiliani, statunitensi, inglesi, condividendo la fame, la paura, la morte. È un patriota di una unità antonoma. Non c'è dunque ideologia partitica tra le fila di queste formazioni, ma spirito di sacrificio patriottico, per un impegno teso a conquistare libertà e democrazia. Libro.…
