Perhaps as in no other single document of its kind is the plight of the Indian written about with such candor and with such personal conviction as it is in these memoirs. From over seventy-five years of notes, Chief Red Fox, with the help of Cash Asher - journalist and former Executive Director of the American Indian Defense Association - has given us a remarkable record of the Red manâs fight for survival, the loss of his rights and his identity. In doing so, he forces us to recognize what we have done and what we must now do to alter our course: "The Indian people you put here weep for what has happened. The have a sturdy background of morality and discipline. Forgive those who tried to remake them in to the image of the White man, and let the wealth of their heritage be preserved as a vital force in the world, and not entombed in museums or consigned to oblivion.".

Paperback. first PB. 01641, very good - fine, reading crease (16 PAGES OF PHOTOS), paperback,
Hard Cover. Condizione: VG. Condizione sovraccoperta: VG. First Edition. 2nd Prtg., 208 pgs, 6" x 8 1/2", Black cloth hardcover with gilt title on spine, contents clean, bright & tight with b/w photos, DJ has moderate wear to extremities. INCLUDED is an 8 1/2" by 14" POSTER (which has a photo of the chief with facsimile autograph), circa late 1960s early 1970s adverstising an appearance of Chief Red Fox, who was around 100 years old at the time. The Chief had been at the Battle of Little Big Horn and had travelled with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, plus had acted in movies. In the poster, he was working for Wilson's Meats and making apearances in food stores across the country (in this case Marietta,Georgia). The Chief lived to be 105. Poster is folded in half & has some edge wear. A unique item.
Good copy overall. Binding is tight with no visible wear. Hardboard covers are clean with no creases or tears. Corners are crisp with no bumping. Colors are bright, no staining, no markings on inside pages. Oddly, pages 5-8 are loose in the binding, and smaller than the other pages, without any visible damage, so maybe a binding mistake?
