Classical Chinese text in vertical double-column kanbun setting. Front blank with a handsome brush inscription and red name seal; later neat date "3-20-92" on a rear blank with owner's name. Internally clean; paper shows the even, intentional stock toning typical of the series. Boards bright with only light shelf evidence; no spotting. A solid, study-worthy copy of a key primary source for East Asian Yog?c?ra thought, uncommon with both the original Tokyo colophon and the 1979 Korean association leaf present.

Condizione: Very Good. London: David Nutt, 1893. First Thus. Duodecimo. 209 pages. Blue cloth stamped in decorative gilt. Worn at extremities and cracked at top of front joint. Binding and interior are sound. A sensation upon its publication in 1669, this epistolary work of fiction has had its authorship disputed over the centuries. Here attributed to Alcoforado, many scholars believe de la Vergne to be the real author. Albert Camus does clear things up a little in The Fall, declaring, "I was not the Portuguese nun.".

Aggiungi al carrello[2], 13, [1] p. ; 4?. Interleaved with blank pages. Bound in quarter paper boards with vellum spine. Library plate of Thomas Fairfax of Cameron. 5 UK locations and 4 US locations. Although published anonymously, this work is often associated with Gerard Winstanley, the leader of the Diggers group in St George's Hill, Surrey. The tract presents itself as a people's declaration, issued by "many of the well-affected in that county [Buckinghamshire] to all their poore oppressed country-men of England." It identifies the nation's "slavery" with lingering feudal exactions, arbitrary law, and clerical burdens, and then argues for a political settlement in the form of a written Agreement securing popular representation, frequent parliaments, and legal equality?language that closely follows the Leveller drafts tabled at Putney and in the Agreement of the People (1647-49). Equally central is its plea for religious liberty: a forthright defence of liberty of conscience and a call for the abolition of compulsory tithes. Social and economic reform is pressed with the same urgency, demanding relief for the poor and condemning enclosures, monopolies, and imprisonment for debt, thereby yoking gospel ethics to a programme of economic justice. Throughout, the pamphlet repeatedly addresses Lord Fairfax and the soldiers of the New Model Army, urging them to execute justice and to stand as guarantors of the people's rights. For collectors and institutions, the work bridges county petitioning and national radicalism, giving rare voice to non-metropolitan supporters of the Leveller cause. Its clear, quotable prose makes it a powerful teaching text, ideal for exhibitions on the Putney Debates, the Agreement of the People, and the origins of modern constitutionalism and religious freedom. It also sits naturally alongside the core Leveller pamphlets of Lilburne, Walwyn, and Overton, and converses fruitfully with Winstanley and the Digger tracts.

The debate reached a peak in 1566 with the publication of Robert Crowley's A Briefe Discourse Against the Outwarde Apparel of the Popishe Church to which this is a response attributed to Archbishop Matthew Parker (1504-1575). The second work includes correspondence between the Bish op John Hopper (c.1495-1555), the theologian Peter Martyr Vermigli (1499-1562), and the Protestant reformer Martin Bucer (1491-1551).
