Rare impression du Cercle Social. - - - - Imprimerie et librairie du Cercle social, société fondée par Nicolas de Bonneville (1760-1828) et l'abbé Claude Fauchet (1744-1793) au début de l'année 1790 pour l'analyse du "Contrat social" et transformée en club politique en oct. suivant. Son imprimerie-librairie publie de nombreux écrits et plusieurs périodiques dont "La Bouche de fer" (la bouche de fer étant une boîte aux lettres placée à la porte de l'imprimerie du Cercle et où chacun pouvait déposer des écrits), "La Sentinelle" et la "Chronique du mois ou les Cahiers patriotiques". Liée aux Girondins, grâce à qui elle reçoit des subventions de la Convention. N. de Bonneville, son directeur, est arrêté après la proscription des Girondins en juin 1793 et sera sauvé par le 9-Thermidor (27 juillet 1794). L'Imprimerie-librairie du Cercle social continue à fonctionner jusqu'au Consulat. Bonneville, ayant comparé Bonaparte à Cromwell, est alors emprisonné. Ruiné par sa détention, il devra cesser d'exercer peu après déc. 1802.
