Condizione: New. SB 696 ppPublished Price £25 The Official History of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade (The Earl of Liverpool's Own), compiled by Lieutenant-Colonel W. S. Austin, DSO, and originally published in Wellington by L. T. Watkins Ltd. in 1924, is an impressive and comprehensive record of one of New Zealand's distinguished First World War formations.Covering the brigade's service from its formation in 1915 through to 1919, the approximately 587-page volume traces its development from the Trentham Regiment into a full four-battalion brigade and follows its operational history as part of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The early chapters cover service in Egypt, including the Senussi Campaign and the defence of the Suez Canal, before the brigade moved to France in 1916 and entered the demanding campaigns of the Western Front. Austin provides detailed accounts of its participation in the Somme, Messines, Ypres and Passchendaele, Havincourt and Cambrai, culminating in the liberation of Le Quesnoy. The book is particularly valuable for its combination of operational narrative and supporting material, including maps, illustrations and a detailed roll of honour. Austin's account records not only the movements and actions of the battalions, but also the considerable sacrifices made by the men who served in them.An important and authoritative unit history, this is an essential reference for anyone interested in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and the experience of New Zealand troops on the Western Front. Detailed, well illustrated and clearly written, it remains a highly rewarding account of the brigade's wartime service. Book.…
