This book was one of the Pocket Literal Translations of the Classics published by David McKay. Literally translated edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a F/O name stamp on the front and rear free fly pages and note written on the front board. Book Condition: Good; splash stains and soiling to front and rear boards; bumping and light wear to head, tail, and tips. No DJ. Khaki cloth boards and spine with bright green lettering on the spine and front board. Clean internals. Inner hinges are sound and not split. 351 pp 16mo. The Commentaries on the Gallic War treat principally of his career of conquest among the Gauls and are written in the purest Latin characterized by simplicity, ease and elegance. This format is best studies by young Latin students as a masterpiece of literary composition. In spite of losses in translation, this book retains a great deal of the author's beauty and elegance of diction and his force and clearness of expression. A clean presentable copy for reading/study.

The book has a slightly shifted spine, slightly loose hinges, and an overall very gentle aging to the pages, otherwise it is in excellent condition with crisp, unmarked pages, a tight binding, and a strong, clean cover. The dustjacket has rubbing and smudging to both covers, a brownish smudge approx 1/4 by 1/4 on the front cover, uneven toning to the jacket most notable at the spine, and mild shelfwear to the edges and corners of the jacket including a a closed tear approx 1/2 inch at the bottom edge of the spine, otherwise the dustjacket is in good condition, inact and attractive, and is in an archival protective mylar.
