This archive consists of about 93 handbills and pieces of ephemera described in several categories as they follow student activities of the VOICE Political Party of the SDS at the University of Michigan. Items are organized into several categories, the first being general VOICE-SDS items & handbills published by SDS during their various anti-war efforts between 1968 and 1970 with war research, ROTC, and the Strike for Life, etc. as well as Student Government Council elections; a selection of items by the Radical Caucus / Independent Socialist Club including a statement on their split with SDS; and finally Student Government Council election handbills, the New University Conference materials, and several pieces on high school organizing. Minor wear throughout, at least two torn corners, some toning on a few handbills, otherwise items are overall in very good condition. Some highlights include student government election handbills with SDS endorsements for Panther White (aka John Sinclair), Gayle Rubin, and others. There is also a Voice mailing list, an "Orientation list" that includes Bill Ayers amongst others, and three Campus Voice newsletters featuring authors that later split with the Radical Caucus faction from SDS. The second group of items constitutes an internal split between the SDS between members of the Radical Caucus/International Socialist Clubs and the leading faction of SDS the "Jesse James Gang" led by Bill Ayers and others (c1968). Importantly this batch constitutes four Strike for Life handbills from November 1968 and an essay by Bruce Levine, et al on the split of the Radical Caucus from SDS where RC members accuse the Jesse James Gang tendency, of ousting them and being adventurists for not consulting the SDS chapter on the Strike for Life. There are also founding handbills introducing the Radical Caucus. Stemming from the Strike for Life, in the 70s the VOICE Political Party began focusing on politicizing student curriculum and addressing war research and ROTC recruitment on campus as they attempted to figure out which issues students cared about most. These materials include several New University Conference materials by faculty and students; statements to reinstate fired staff and anti-war activist Julien Glendell and Tom Mayer, as well as a few handbills by the Teaching Fellows Union; and a heavy focus on War Research that spanned several years. Lastly, there is a small group of general student handbills on class schedules, one essay by the Radical Independent Party (a faction party that came out of Voice in 1970), and four handbills on high school organizing by the Student Mobilization Committee and the Citizens for New Politics VOICE-SDS, The Bill Ayers for School Board Committee. VOICE Political Party-SDS, general items like newsletter, orientation list, voice mailing list, and propaganda handbills: 17 items 6 items from the Student Government Council election. General SDS items, as they attempted to meet the needs of students and workers as the Student-Worker Committee. It also includes some SDS position pieces on war and the university: 7 items. Strike for Life handbills: 4 items + 2 Ann Arbor Free School handbills (varying duplicates) that can be dated in 1969 by the "Panther White" mention. Radical Caucus (later Independent Socialist Clubs): 14 handbills A handbill by the Lurleen Wallace Memorial Caucus - a faction that split from the SDS chapter led by Bill Ayers, Terry Ribbons, and Jim Mellon in 1968. Handbill is addressed to UM President Robben Fleming. Ayers, et al wrote an article on the split in SDS New Left Notes November 11, 1968.
