He held court in his saloon along the Rio Grande in a desolate stretch of the Chihuahuan Desert. Legend records his jurisprudence as thoroughly abnormal and in many instances comical. Biography of Justice of the Peace and Judge Roy Bean of Langtry, Pecos County, Texas who called himself "The Law West of the Pecos." This Everett Lloyd biography preceded the similarly titled 1943 Bean biography by southwestern historian and UTEP professor Charles Leland Sonnichsen.
