London 1888, 470/516 pp., wo b&w lithos, half-leather bindings, back of vol. 1 is repaired, Extensive well-written history of what can be considered France s most famous building ever. Blows many myths about the allegedly horrendous circumstances and the lawlessness surrounding it, but in vain, as the myths still continue to dominate general understanding, buttressing the belief that with the fall of the Bastille on 14th July 1789 a new era in human history had begun. Perhaps not accidentally, a book not from France but from abroad. (code N-38).
