Das Thema MuÃe taucht nicht erst in unserer heutigen, schnelllebigen Gesellschaft vielfach in Zusammenhang mit Fragen nach einer sinnstiftenden Zeitgestaltung auf. Bereits im 19. Jahrhundert spielte die Frage nach dem Umgang mit der eigenen Zeit eine groÃe Rolle und wurde für die Geschlechter unterschiedlich beantwortet. Weiblichen Mitgliedern der russischen Adelsgesellschaft etwa, auf die sich diese Studie konzentriert, war es nur bedingt mà glich, selbstbestimmt über ihre Zeit zu verfügen. Denn obwohl sich diese Gesellschaftsgruppe damals durch einen regelrechten Ãberschuss an (freier) Zeit auszeichnete, wurde vor allem der Lebensalltag von adligen Mädchen und Frauen durch eine strikte Zeiteinteilung reguliert. Damit einher gingen geschlechtsspezifische Raum- und Tätigkeitszuschreibungen, die das Leben adliger Mädchen und Frauen aufs Engste fremdbestimmten. Diese Studie untersucht das komplexe Phänomen der MuÃe unter den spezifischen Bedingungen der russischen Adelsgesellschaft in Zusammenhang mit zeitgenà ssischen Vorstellungen von idealer Weiblichkeit. Die Auswertung normativer Literatur in Form von Anstands- und Erziehungsbüchern sowie fiktionaler Texte sowohl prominenter russischer Autoren als auch weniger bekannter Autorinnen gibt Hinweise darauf, welche Konzepte von MuÃe und Weiblichkeit für die russische Literatur des 19. Jahrhunderts zu identifizieren sind. Typische Räume und Tätigkeiten kristallisieren sich heraus. So entfaltet sich die weibliche MuÃe vornehmlich in Gärten und an Fenstern, als MuÃepraktiken erscheinen insbesondere Handarbeiten wie Sticken. Es erweist sich, dass die narrative Ãsthetisierung von MuÃeerfahrungen adliger Mädchen und Frauen das Potenzial besitzt, zeitgenà ssische Idealvorstellungen von Weiblichkeit in literarischen Texten subversiv zu unterlaufen und Gegenentwürfe vorzustellen.
