Je n'ay pas pu, Monsieur, vous ecrire jeudy, et je ne vous diray du'un mot aujourd'huy. Depuis cinq ou six jours, j'ay été malade. Je crois en être quitte, la fievre m'a quitté avant hier. Je suis cependant sorty aujourd'huy pour aller chés M. Arnould. Il m'a dit que votre acte devoit être signé de M. Le duc de Bouillon,qu'il luy avoit été envoyé comme il me l'avoit promis, mais qu'il n'étoit pas encore revenu, qu'aussitôt qu'il le seroit, il me le manderoit, et alors, je vous en instruiray sur le champ. Il ay un point de regle fixe pour le payement des notaires, on leur donne plus ou moins relativement au . à la peine, et a l'objet pour lequel ils ont travaillé. Je tiens que votre acte doit être un objet d'environ 12 ou 15 Louis. Vous le ferés . si vous voulés, mais cela est désagreable. Adieu, Monsieur, portés vous bien, et me croyés (?) toujours avec le plus sincere attachement, votre trés humble et trés obeissant serviteur." "Monsieur, Si les recommandations etoient nécessaires pour ménager à servir l'interet de mes cliens, avec le zele que le leure dois, Brun ne pouvoit en employer de plus puissante que la votre. J'ay l'honneur de vous connoitre assez pour désirer de trouver des occasions de faire quelque chose qui vous soit agreable et vous m'obligerés en me les fournissant. J'ay terminé l'affaire de Brun aussy avantageusement que sa position pouvoit le faire espérer. Pour . faire réussir sa demande en désistement contre Mosieur, il auroit été indispensable qu'il fut expédiée une sentence que l'avois obtenue pour luy en 1772 (?) contre Grimaud, et d'une part Brun n'est pas en etat d'en faire l'avance, car elle coutera au moins 80 [£], d'un autre côté elle est susceptible d'apel au Parlement, et enfin il ne pourroit en répéter leur frais que contre Grimauld, et c'est une mauvaise ressource, en sorte qu'il ne pouroit pas espérer de voir sitot la fin de cette affaire, quelque bonne qu'elle soit; et qu'il auroit plus couté que ne vaut l'objet de la réclamation. Ces considérations m'ont déterminé à flechir un peu, en sorte que j'ay fait consentire Brun à se contenter d'une somme de 36 [£] pour la jouissance dont Mosuier est tenu depuis la demande formée contre luy, et qui doivent representer deux recoltes. A l'egard des frais, j'ay consenti a l'y . et je crois n'avoie pas accordé le ca., parceque jusque à present, la demande n'avoit point été etablie. Et pour< Brun perde moins, je luy ay fait remise de la moitié, en sorte qu'il retire vingt deux livres quittes, sur cet objet, quoy qu'il m'en ait donné 16 [£] pour dette d'une obligation qu'il me devoit, et par un traité qu'il a passé avec la V(euv)e Mosuier, elle consent de se désister de l'heritage qu'il reclame. J'aurois désiré pouvoir faire mieux. Je vous observe que Brun n'a point d'action contre la V(euv)e Mosuier, pour la jouissance dont Grimauld, etoie tenue, non plus que aux frais, elle eu les auroit eu (?) que par la voye de l'hypothèque, et son mary a obtenu les lettres de ratification qui ont été scellées sans opposition."J'ay l'honneur d'etre, Monsieur, votre tres humble et tres obéissant serviteur. Cet Ecclesiastique a dans la communauté, dont il a soin, deux partys dont un ne veut point avoir dautre pasteur que luy et lautre, qui luy est opposé, est neanmoins tres disposé a le recevoir, a le reconnoitre et a le garder, si vous lagréer, et si vous luy continuer ses pouvoirs. Je ne puis pas mempecher de vous dire, Monsieur, par la connoissance que jay de lestat de léglise et de la Religion en ce paÿs cy depuis que jy suis, quil ne doit pas estre gouverné comme les autres, quil faut user de plus dindulgence et de facilité quailleurs, et ne pas trop remuer et changer les choses qui y sont établies, mais les laisser comme elles sont en usage, a moins quil ny ayt un déreglement evident a corriger.Jexpliqueray sur cela mes sentiments, et ce que lexpérience ma appris, quand je seray a Rome : je vous assure quil faut estre sur les lieux pour bien connoitre ce paÿs cy. Je vous conseille de pendre beaucoup de confiance au Pasteur de La Haye dont jay conçu toujours une plus grande estime, a mesure que je lay connu et pratiqué : cest un homme qui joint beaucoup de prudence et de capacité (.) et tres desinterressé pour les personnes dont il est chargé ; on ne peut pas le bien connoitre je vous assure, sans en faire beaucoup de cas.Emmanuel-Théodose, neveu de Turenne, entré dans les ordres, nobtint pas seulement un grand nombre de prébendes mais aussi, à lâge de 26 ans, la pourpre cardinalice, et devint Grand aumônier de France puis avec la même fonction, Grand officier du prestigieux ordre du Saint-Esprit. Après son ralliement dans le camp des puissances ennemies, Louis XIV intenta un procès en félonie contre son Grand aumônier. La confiscation totale de ses revenus français, l'hostilité qu'il ne tarda pas à soulever dans son exil par ses mauvais procédés l'incitèrent en 1712 à gagner Rome. « Cardinal pauvre », il s'installa près du Quirinal. Bouillon y mourut le 2 mars 1715, six mois avant le Roi, « d'orgueil, comme toute sa vie il avait vécu », ou de « rage » : Saint-Simon hasarda les deux diagnostics dans ses Mémoires.
