The lake's remote location meant that these species were previously unknown to science until French missionary Father Hauttecur collected the specimens described in this volume. The book provides a detailed description of each species, along with illustrations to aid in identification. The author also discusses the broader context of these discoveries, placing them within the history of malacology and the exploration of Africa. This book is a valuable resource for malacologists and historians of science. It provides new insights into the diversity of freshwater bivalves in Africa and the history of their discovery. The author's clear and engaging writing style makes this book accessible to a wide range of readers, from experts to those with a general interest in natural history.
