The ninth and final novel in Crispin's urbane and witty mystery series featuring Oxford don and amateur detective Gervase Fen but those nine are more than enough to earn Crispin a high place of honor among English mystery writers. In this last one, corpses are piling up in a typical English village as murder follows murder while Fen works his way through a very intricate puzzle, culminating in a chase to end all chases. A touch of soiling on text edges, o/w text and boards are clean and unmarked, tight and square. The dustjacket, unfortunately, is another story. A large chip missing from the top edge of the front panel destroyed the first word of the title. There is also a large chip missing at the bottom end of the spine as well as other minor surface and edgewear. About the best that can be said is the dj is not price-clipped and did its primary job of protecting the book. A decent reading copy.…
