THE GRANDISSIMES was first published in book form in 1880 after being serialized in Scribner's magazine. A.V.L. Brokaw was apparently a St. Louis, Missouri abdominal surgeon circa 1880s-1920s although the book turned up in a Demopolis, Alabama estate.
