The reports summarize data on the geology and occurrence of minerals subject to leasing. The reports are a joint effort of the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Bureau of Mines and are compiled from published and unpublished data. Five separate refuges are addressed in this volume: The Huron, Seney, Michigan Islands, Green Bay, and Gravel Island National Wildlife Refuges of Michigan and Wisconsin. The reports include details on the surface materials, bedrock, and potential mineral resources of each refuge. There is no record of mineral production from any of the refuges or nearby areas, and no known mineral deposits of commercial significance have been identified. The mineral resource potential in all the areas is considered poor. The reports conclude that none of the areas have any recorded mineral production, nor do they contain any known mineral deposits of commercial significance, or geologic structures that may indicate such mineral deposits are present. Given that none of the minerals subject to the mineral leasing laws are found in the igneous rocks underlying these areas, the presence of commercial deposits of these minerals in the areas is extremely unlikely. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
