This is a special edition for the Armed Forces, published by Washington Square Press and distributed by the Legacy Project, a national, all-volunteer orginization that works to preserve American wartime correspondence. This edition was edited to about thirty letters and made available free to the Armed Forces. It includes an Introduction and Five Chapters: Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam to the Present Day. These are previously-unpublished letters offere an unprecedented insight into the experiences of those who have served this nation in times of war. There are dramatic accounts of combat, poignant declarations of love, humorous anecdotes, inspiring expressions of patriotism and thoughtful reflections onn the nature of warfare. Each letter is introduced with a brief summary of the writer and the circumstances the letters was written and in many cases the fate of the writer.
