The work due to its extension surpassed the material and temporal possibility of the authors; besides genealogy includes history and Portuguese politics in the nineteenth century. After the death of Feo the work was continued by Sanches de Baena (1822-1909). Born in Vila do Conde, he emigrated to Brazil where he married in 1859, returned to Portugal and was made a viscount in 1869 by D. Luís I. The most focused part of this work is the history and genealogy of Portuguese ducal houses in the century XIX that gave the justification to the authors to write about all the other titular families their contemporaries in century XIX. The holders (marquises, counts, viscounts and barons) mentioned throughout this extensive work are in an index. The `main subject` - the Portuguese dukes - include the Duke of Victory, descendant of Arthur Wellesly, also Duke of Wellington. The other ducal houses mentioned are: Cadaval, Lafões, Terceira, Palmela, Saldanha, Loulé and Ávila and Bolama. INOCÊNCIO III, 339 and III, 204: João Carlos Feo Cardoso de Castello Branco e Torres, Fidalgo da Casa Real, Commander of the Order of Avis, retired Lieutenant-Colonel, corresponding partner of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Lisbon, etc. He was born on October 1, 1798, the son of Luiz da Mota Feo and his wife, D. Leocadia Thereza Possidonia de Lima and Mello Falcão Van-Zeller. He died in 1868. - Review of the Families of the Titles of Portugal, the pairs of the kingdom and the gentlemen who exercise in the Palace. Accompanied by the historical and genealogical description of the same families, etc. Lisbon, in typ. of the Franco-Portuguese typographic society, 1863. 8th gr. the impression by the death of the auctor, and by the fallacy of the first editors j. melchiades & c.ª, established in lisbon in Rua Aurea, was interrupted since pag.736, and comprised the families of the dukes of Lafões, Cadaval, Terceira, Palmella, and Saldanha. Only in the first volume of this work were the Dukes of Loulé and Avila and Bolama missing. Viscount de Sanches de Baena, one of the most conscientious genealogical investigators, proposed to continue the work of Feo, which the Royal Academy of Sciences accepted, deciding that the printing would be on his own account and out of his documents. The work, amplified or completed by sr. Viscount, it is probable that he is entitled with the title of Biographical and Genealogical Review of the Families of all the Dukes in Portugal, our contemporaries, etc. some collectors have the incomplete work of Feo, save, it seems, from the sale by weight of the printed paper, which belonged to him. There is a copy in the National Bibliotheca. In the forefinger reads the following title: Review of the Houses of Portugal, etc. - Cadaval, Lafões and Dukes. There was confusion in the way of describing the last printed work of Feo, by the indecision in which was the illustrious continuant and my friend, Mr. Viscount de Sanches de Baena, in the title with which he would publish it. The pages printed by the publishers Melchiades & C.ª, of which it was said, have nothing in common with those which the Royal Academy of Sciences had printed during the lifetime of Feo, and which arrived at pag. 737. From that time on it is the work of the said mr. Viscount and left the final under the title of Historical-Genealogical Memorials of the Portuguese Dukes of the XIX Centur.
