Hardback. Condizione: Fair. Other Clay is a survivor's account of World War I infantry combat, told by a front-line officer whose 116th Infantry Regiment landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day and fought its way across Europe to the Elbe. Charles R. Cawthon joined the Virginia National Guard in 1940-to avoid being drafted and to spend his expected one year of service in officer training. When America entered the war, his division was among the first shipped out to England, where they spent two years preparing to spearhead the largest amphibious military operation in history. On the beaches of Normandy, on June 6, 1944, the U.S. Army suffered its heaviest casualties since Gettysburg. The losses were greatest among the infantry companies that led the assault, and Cawthon describes firsthand the furious and deathly chaos of the daylong battle to get off the beach and up the heights. Reduced by casualties to half its preinvasion strength, Cawthon's regiment still managed to fight off German counterattacks and engage in an all-out pursuit across France before the Germans counterattacked again at the Ardennes forest. Thoughtful, candid, and revealing, Cawthon's memoir is a deeply felt and carefully recollected study of men confronting the face of death-their fear, their courage, their hunger and exhaustion, their loyalty to one another, and their miraculous and unreasoning ability to go one more step, one more day, one more mile. Charles R. Cawthon (1912-96) retired from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1967 with the rank of colonel. Jerry Cooper is a professor emeritus of history at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis and the author of The Rise of the National Guard: The Evolution of the American Militia, 1865-1920 (Nebraska 1997).…

Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. Take your audience on a journey to leave a more lasting impact Storyshowing is an instruction manual for making connections. Storytelling has been shown to be one of the most effective methods of persuasion, motivation and inspiration, yet the disconnect remains -- you're still only telling. To truly influence people, you need to go deeper than that -- you need to show them your story. By inviting your audience in, you connect on a much deeper, more emotional level; you bypass the brain and connect at the root of what it means to be human, leaving a profound impact on their entire outlook. This book shows you how to transcend telling and start showing your story, using an easy-to-follow framework you can start applying today. Unearth your own experiences, and bring your vulnerabilities out into the light; share your emotions and forge a path to true communication. Use images, body language and gestures as tools to build that indelible connection; then and only then will people truly engage and transform their thinking. No matter your message, the impact lies in the delivery. This insightful guide equips you with the tools and skills you need to start communicating like never before. Share more powerful stories using a simple 5-step method Build confidence, influence others and make a deeper connection Be more persuasive in presentations, pitches, calls and talks Transform the way people think by inviting them inside your story The difference between telling and showing is like the difference between a lecture and a play. It's the difference between giving information and taking the audience on a journey. The difference between a brochure and a test drive. Storyshowing helps you level up your communication to leave a lasting, more profound impact. …
