ABOUT THE BOOK: The book is full of brain storming positive and constructive ideas for all social reformers who try for social equality, harmony and brotherhood; for government policy makers, who intend to give meaning to the constitutional commitments with a view to serve the nation; for victims of the graded Indian society to take lessonful inspiration from the struggle, achievement and unparallelled contribution in the nation building and establishment of socioeconomic justice oriented society, of Dr. Ambedkar and Justice K. Ramaswamy and for upper class people to rethink over Mahatma GandhiÕs ideological commitment towards untouchables to ensure respectable life to them in our Hindufold so as to ensure equal participation of all in the nation building and have introspection as losses done in the history due to our graded division. It has message for academicians who have power of pen which is said to be mightier than sword, to start a fresh reconciliatory approachment between the two haters of the practice of untouchability, dehumanizing some people only on ground of birth and lover of humanity, justice and equality the father of the Nation and the father of the Constitution. It may invite attention of all to brood over the national profit and loss. Birth is not the basis of our consideration of social behaviour and worth is given precedence as our founding fathers of the constitution adopted AshokaÕs Dharmachakra as our symbol of national honour (though he was Shudra by caste). It may also provide inspiration to think patiently how much our Indian society would have benefitted had Shambboka not been beheaded, EklabyasÕs thumb would not have been cut and Rohith Vemula would have been allowed to blossom? With its interdisciplinary dimension the Book is equally valuable for politicosocial thinkers, policy makers and personnel involved in the governance of the country, and also the students, researchers and teachers in the discipline of Law, Political Science, Sociology and Social Anthropology. Growth and purpose of patents at international and national level. 3. Comparative study of patent laws of various countries. 4. Patent protection to biotechnological inventions. 5. Genetic engineering and life patents. 6. Protection of geographical indication and traditional knowledge. 7. Biosafety and global scenario. 8. New development in patent laws. 9. Conclusion and suggestions. Index. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) have become important in the face of changing trade environment which is characterized by the following features, namely, global competition, high innovation risks, short product cycle, need for rapid changes in technology, high investments in research and development (R&D), production and marketing and need for highly skilled human resources. Intellectual property is acquiring an important role on the international stage. The agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPS) represents an important step toward the universal recognition of geographical indications (GIS) protection. While previous agreements concluded under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) including the Madrid and the Lisbon agreements have already regulated related legal figures such as indications of source and appellations of origin, the TRIPS agreement is today the standard subscribed to by all members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and therefore, the one with widest international recognition. The TRIPS agreement contains some minimum standards for the protection of geographical indications, including definition, scope, legal means, exceptions and international negotiations. It is also important to mention that the TRIPS agreement is subject, as any other WTO agreement, to the dispute settlement understanding of the WTO, making its standards enforceable among members.
