ATM is, in essence, characterized by the concepts of whole body and chronicity. Due to this complexity, its scientific evaluation has still remained very primitive. A number of clinical experiences have indicated that ATM is closely linked to homeostasis. Clearly, the microcirculation plays an essential role in homeostasis. It is an urgent task for biomedical researchers, especially Asian scientists, to elucidate the significance of ATM from the standpoint of the microcirculation. This book summarizes selected proceedings of the satellite symposium. The first section considers the significance of ATM, including its regional development in Asia and other areas, from the viewpoint of the microcirculatory science. In the second section, modern concepts and methods in microcirculation are proposed for evaluating the effects of traditional herbs, acupuncture or Asian traditional therapies comprehensively. In the third section, microcirculatory aspects of ATM are reported with clinical applications of biophysical (magnetism or acupuncture) or herbal medicines in Asia and Europe. the last section presents opinions for developing the microcirculatory science of ATM in the future. The book contains up-to-date data on the microcirculatory aspects of ATM, offering a rational frame of reference for scientific evaluation.
